![]() You need rosy-colored glasses to even believe that it’s “close to being close” (that is, they are almost ready to release a semi-workable Beta). We know that EndNote is not close to being finished because there has been no Beta released. What this means for EndNote: nothing that TR reps say has any credibility, especially the nebolous ‘within the next month or so’ release date that they’ve been feeding us since July. This will not solve the EndNote issues because EndNote’s problems are TR’s problems.) (The Mac 10.11.1 El Capitan update was just released today after over a month of beta testing. If the patch is very complex and multifaceted, as TR has been at pains to stress, then like any complex piece of software, it requires an extensive Beta testing period. Also, they jumped on Word 2016’s issues with El Cap–nevermind Yosemite users–which is now also a non-issue.) (Another was that Word hadn’t yet been released, even though it was in public Beta since last March. This is one of various distractions and deflections they have seized upon since the summer. Last month, TR asked the forum if there were any volunteers. I have the feeling that something simmilar happened to SPSS with smithak4 noted, I was referring to the lack of any Beta testing for the EndNote patch. In a sense it is sad that this has happened for EN was a software dedicated to academics that has fallen pray of the commercial voracity of TR. Even in the free version Mendeley offers more storage space and better integration than EN!Īnd lest not forget that Mendeley is owned by none other than Elsevier, I mean, Elsevier! And yet they can offer it for free with constant updates? I’m sorry to insist on this but we are talking about Elsevier, the same company that had £2.48 billion (2014) in revenue (TR’s revenue was US$ 12.607 billion !). Just yesterday I was looking at a comparative table of EN against Mendeley, and other FREE (yes, FREE) resources. The fact is that TR doesn’t care for us paying customers and that EN is on the very bottom of their priorities. al) have been posting here and all the endless silence from TR’s end. You have perfectly described the real reason behind all the deceiving messages that Jason (et. Maybe then they will give updates higher priority or at least cut the PR BS. The truth is that this update has little priority within TR, after all it’s not a paid update. After “Nov” is “The Holidays” if they still need more time. The next estimate will be “Nov” because it would be a little too damning to select “Nov/Dec” next. ![]() A legitimate release date would be one month after Beta testing begins We haven’t heard anything about Beta testing starting, so do they think they will release the software before the end of the month? And yet they haven’t changed the expected release date. Take a step back and look at the situation: you will then see TR’s willful lies (PR noble lies, from their perspective) about the software’s release date. And mentioning Word 2016’s issues with Mac El Capitan is a red-herring: that issue will be resolved by Apple in the 10.11.1 update because it’s a Mac not Word issue. Yes, as TR has pointed out, developing the patch for Word 2016 is difficult but as the other software options have shown, not impossible. In this case, TR doesn’t want you seeking other biblio software, especially since there are free alternatives available. The Word plugin is indeed a very good one that made it easy for me.TR is using the ole airline huge delay PR tactic: break the delay down into a series of smaller delays, so customers aren’t enraged. I was using City while you write the whole time, inserted new sources into my EndNote library and let it create the bibliography. Deleted that and inserted it once again, then I had no problem.Īll I can say is that I didn't need the whole bunch of features. Turned out Word always had some sort of crash with one in-text citation. ![]() One Time I had a corrupted Word document that caused End Note to give out some errors while creating the bibliography. That was so easy that I decided I will not give Bookends another try - at least for this thesis ) Well, after about 2 hours I had this special configuration I needed. So I turned to EndNote X6 on the one hand I didn't have to pay for as student at my university and on the other hand it was promoted with a very good Word Plugin. The institution wanted some special sort of in-text citations I wasn't able to configure with bookends. Unfortunately I didn't manage to make the in-text citation links Bookends needed for the bibliography. I bought Bookends some time ago in a MacUpdate Bundle so it was my first choice to go to. Not a big deal I thought because I like text editors like Word and Pages. I had to write the Bachelor's Thesis with MS Word. ![]()
